Squeeze, click, fold: how to choose the right fidget tool for your hands

Fidgeting isn't one thing. Some people want to click, some want to squeeze, some want to fold something over and over. Picking a tool that matches how you actually move your hands makes a real difference to whether it gets used, or ends up in a drawer.

Auditory and tactile: clicking

Keyswitch is built around a genuine mechanical keyboard switch, click, feel, repeat. If you like the sound and feel of a good keyboard but don't need the whole keyboard to get it, this is the one.

Mechanical and visual: folding

Layered Hex folds flat and springs back into shape, over and over. No batteries, no app, just a satisfying bit of mechanical engineering. Good for people who like to watch as well as feel what's happening in their hands.

Slow-rebound squeeze

Three options here, all squeeze-and-release, but each with a different feel:

  • Cheese Squishy, soft, slow-rebound memory foam. The gentlest resistance of the three.
  • Mini Square, small and dense, straightforward squeeze relief with no gimmick, easy to keep a few around.
  • Lemon Press, liquid-filled, more resistance and a slower return than a standard foam squishy.
